Confraria Trotamontes’ objective is to develop Trail running in Portugal. The events that it organizes all have a common characteristic – there is a mystical feel to them.
The Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana is a project that we embraced from the outset in partnership with .COM. This event brings together the practice of sports, history and the beauty of Mother Nature, a unique combination that participants won’t readily forget. It will be a journey back in time for all of us.
This event is a joint effort, with different partners contributing their expertise. We have no doubt that it will be an important contribution to promoting the immense and rich heritage of the Geira Romana and the surrounding area.
Our work is primarily aimed at you, the participating athletes, and I wish you all the best in preparing for the event. I would also like to add that there will be times on the course when you may well take a break to admire the stunning landscape surrounding you.

We have great pleasure in hosting sports events in the Terras de Bouro/Gerês Municipality. Therefore, from the outset, we decided to give our full support to the UltraTrail on the Geira/Via Romana, with the objective of promoting active tourism, and bringing visitors to the area.
Terras de Bouro is a paradisiacal part of the Minho region, boasting scenery of unrivalled beauty. It includes the stunning landscapes of the Peneda-Gerês National Park and the important historical heritage of the Geira-Via Romana. The area also has a plentiful supply of accommodation and entertainment infrastructures geared towards tourists. So, when you visit the area, from the town of Gerês to Porta do Campo do Gerês, you’re guaranteed to have an enjoyable stay. We’d like to take the opportunity to invite all nature lovers to participate in the Ultra Trail, because we’re sure that you’ll have a truly unforgettable experience which will make you want to return to Terras de Bouro and Gerês.

I have great pleasure in inviting you to participate in this Ultra Trail sports event to be held on the 23rd May, 2010. The course will follow the Via Nova, from the Municipality of Lobios to Amares. This event celebrates the unique landscape on both sides of the border between Portugal and Spain, as well as its historical, cultural, and environmental value. We hope that this event will help to further increase the Via Nova’s touristic importance. It is also our wish that it has a social impact by promoting cultural and rural tourism in our region.
