Technical Information

Water stations

There will be 7 water stations along the Ultra Trail course. The 1st, 2nd and 6th stations will serve liquid refreshments only and the rest of the stations will serve food and liquid refreshments.

Time checking system

There will be a system used to monitor when athletes reach checkpoints along the course, as well as when they cross the finish line. This will be done using SPORTident, an electronic control system.
Athletes are responsible for registering their arrival at every checkpoint (CP) and at the finishing line. This is done by inserting their chips (given out before the start of the race) in the checking station mounted at each checkpoint. The station is easily identifiable by its triangular logo and orange and white colours (see picture below).
(If you need more information about the system see this link.)

There will be 5 checkpoints along the Ultra Trail da Geira / Via Nova Romana course. They are as follows: Athletes who do not register their arrival at one of the checkpoints will be penalised by 30 minutes. This means 30 minutes will be added to their final race time. Athletes who do not register their arrival at more than one checkpoint will be disqualified.

The course

The course will be clearly marked and there will be race marshals stationed at the more complicated crossroads.
