Regulations


  1. ORGANISATION
    The Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana is organised by a partnership composed of the Clube Orientação do Minho, Confraria Trotamontes and the Municipality of Amares, along with important support from the Municipalities of Lóbios and Terras de Bouro.

  3. EVENTS
    On 23rd May, 2010 three different events will take place simultaneously: the Ultra Trail da Geira / Via Nova Romana, the Corrida da Geira and a Trek from Caldelas to Monte de S. Pedro.
    1. The Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana starts at 09:00 and almost all of the course follows the Roman road that linked Bracara Augusta (Braga, Portugal) to Asturica Augusta (Astorga, Spain). The Ultra Trail course is run along the section between miles XXXVIII and XII, and is 50 km in length. The starting point of the Ultra Trail run will be Baños, Lóbios, in Spain. The course takes runners through the Municipality of Terras de Bouro and the finishing point will be at the Piscina de Caldelas (Caldelas swimming pool) in the Municipality of Amares.
    2. There will be another trail run, the Corrida da Geira, starting at 11:15. It is 15km in length, starts in S. Sebastião da Geira, near mile XVII, and finishes in Caldelas, Amares.
    3. There will also be a Trek starting at 10:00. It is approximately 8km in length and starts and ends in Caldelas, Amares.

     

  4. Entries
    1. Entries should be carried out according to the dates indicated below and by completing the online registration form. Click here.
    2. Entries will only be considered after payment. Payment should be carried out by deposit or bank transfer to the following account: NIB 0035 0171 0069 9341 5303 6
      • Proof of payment should be sent by email together with the name of the participants. Enrolments will only be considered to have been completed successfully once payment has been confirmed.
      • Participants will then be able to check their names on the list of participants.
    3. Enrolment should be carried out until 15th April 2010. Enrolment fees increase by 10,00€ after 15th April 2010. The final deadline for accepting enrolments is 13th May 2010.
    4. There will be a limit of 200 participants in the Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana, 100 participants in the Corrida da Geira and 200 in the Trek.
    5. Athletes can enrol as individuals or as club runners.
    6. Participants enrolled on the Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana and the Corrida da Geira are not allowed to exchange or give away their race numbers to anyone else.
    7. In the event of an athlete not being able to participate (after successful enrolment and until 13th May 2010), the organisation will reimburse 50% of the enrolment fee.
    8. The completion and sending of the enrolment form for the event corresponds to a declaration of physical and psychological aptitude to take part in the event by the athlete.

  5. SPORTS INSURANCE
    All participants will have personal accident insurance coverage.

  7. Entry fees
    1. Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana, 25,00€ until 15th April 2010 and 35,00€ until 13th May 2010.
    2. Corrida da Geira, 15,00€ until 15th April 2010 and 25,00€ until 13th May 2010.
    3. Trek, 10,00€ until 15th April 2010 and 20,00€ until 13th May 2010.
    4. Free enrolment for the winners of the previous year’s edition of the Ultra Trail.
    5. For the Ultra Trail there is a 5% discount for every year of participation. This discount comes into effect from the 2nd year of participation, as long as the athlete is taking part in consecutive years. The discount can be applied until it is 100% of the enrolment fee. It is up to the athlete, when enrolling, to provide evidence of previous participation, by sending an email to the organisation listing his/her race number(s) in previous editions of the race.
      • 2nd Year - 5% discount
      • 3rd Year - 10% discount
      • 4th Year - 15% discount
      • ...
    6. The enrolment fee includes sports insurance, use of the electronic control system and lunch.

     

  8. CLASSIFICATIONS
    1. In the Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana and the Corrida da Geira there will only be individual Male and Female classifications, with no age groupings.
    2. The Trek is not of a competitive nature and therefore there will be no classifications.
    3. There will be no classifications of teams.

     

  9. PRIZES
    1. In the Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana the first 5 finishers of each age group will be awarded prizes.
    2. In the Corrida da Geira the first 3 finishers of each age group will be awarded prizes.
    3. There will be souvenirs for all finishers of the Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana.
    4. There will be diplomas for all participants, including those taking part in the Trek.
    5. The winners of the previous year’s Ultra Trail (Male and Female) are entitled to free enrolment in the following year’s edition.

     

  10. DISQUALIFICATION

  11. Athletes will be disqualified if:
    1. They do not complete the course that has been established.
    2. They do not follow the instructions of the organisers or those involved in helping with the running of the event.
    3. They demonstrate any unsporting conduct.
    4. They litter or pollute the environment in any way.
    5. The organisation will not allow any athletes who are disqualified for either of the last two reasons to participate in future editions of the event.
    6. There will be time limits to reach certain stages along the course. There will therefore be time checkpoints at the water stations and at the finishing line:
      • The time limit to finish the Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana (50km) will be 8 hours.
      • On the Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana there will be a time checkpoint at the Museu da Geira, in Campo do Gerês. Athletes who take over 3 hours to reach this checkpoint will not be allowed to continue in the race.
      • The time limit to finish the Corrida da Geira will be 2 ½ hours.

     

  12. ADMINISTRATION/SECRETARIAT
    1. The race administration/secretariat will be based at the Piscina de Caldelas (Caldelas swimming pool). It will function between 15:00 and 21:00 on 22nd May, 2010 and from 07:00 on 23rd May, 2010.
    2. All participating athletes should bring ID documentation, proof of payment of the race enrolment fee and four safety pins to attach their race numbers.

     

  13. TRANSPORTATION OF PARTICIPATING ATHLETES TO STARTING POINT
    1. Athletes participating in the Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana and the Corrida da Geira will be transported from finishing point (Piscina de Caldelas) to the starting line at 07:00 and 10:30 respectively.
    2. It will be possible for each athlete to leave one bag with his/her belongings to be transported from the starting point to the finishing point. Participants must identify their bags with their race number.
    3. The finishing line of the Corrida da Geira is the same as that of the Ultra Trail.
    4. The starting and finishing point of the trek is where the race administration/secretariat is based, so the trekkers won’t need to be transported anywhere.

     

  14. SHOWERS
    1. All participants can have showers at the Piscina de Caldelas in Amares.

     

  15. WATER STATIONS
    1. There will be water stations for athletes participating in the Ultra Trail Geira / Via Nova Romana. The location of these will be confirmed before the start of the race.
    2. Athletes participating in the Corrida da Geira can use the water stations on the course.
    3. Athletes are not allowed to be accompanied by any vehicles, including bicycles.

     

  16. SUPPORT AND EMERGENCY
    1. There will be support, aid and emergency teams to provide any care that participants may need.
    2. There will be an emergency plan in place which will include the repatriation of injured athletes.
    3. Other than the items covered by the race insurance, the organisation has no responsibility for the physical condition of athletes, or for any accident or other damage suffered before, during or after the event.

     

  17. MISCELLANEOUS
    1. Athletes must ensure they run on the sides of any roads or tracks where vehicles circulate, and they must take the necessary precautions to avoid accidents.
    2. At the end there will be a lunch for all participants at the Piscina de Caldelas in Amares. The prize-giving ceremony will also take place there.
    3. Any situations not covered by these regulations will be resolved by the organising committee. There will be no right to appeal its decisions.
